Mac Lewis Fundraiser
During the 2006-07 academic year, our undergraduates and alumni joined forces to assist one of our own -- Lambda-Lambda Founder Mac Lewis, (initiate #20). Mac became wheelchair-bound after a serious automobile accident in 1985. Mac's disability limited him from travel beyond his immediate residence without access to a vehicle capable of transporting a motorized wheelchair; unfortunately, the vehicle he used had become beyond repair. In November 2006, at the request of Mac's pledge brother, Gary Evans #1, Lambda-Lambda Chapter alumni and friends rallied behind Mac and ultimately raised more than $12,000 to acquire a wheelchair lift-equipped vehicle. In 2007, the vehicle was delivered to Mac.
During the academic year our undergraduate chapter donated many man-hours to support Mac and his wife, Faye at their southeastern Alamance County home. The Burlington Times-News featured this project on March 18, 2007. Links to these stories appear below.
