Web Pages re Sat. Night's Party

I have added two pages to the site that are related to the big party we are throwing on Saturday night of Homecoming Weekend. One describes the free shuttle service being sponsored by LLAA; the other is a listing of alumni who have volunteered to man shifts at the event's registration table.

Get Registered For Golf!

Whether you're a hooker, a slicer, or a sandbagger, you better dust off your pitching niblick and practice that short game, for in just a few short weeks we'll tee it up together!

Based on feedback provided to this webmaster, we stand to field an entire golf course full of Kappa Sigma foursomes at the Homecoming Golf Tournament. Clearly we will dominate the institution's annual event. As one who has played in a Kappa Sigma foursome in almost every Elon Homecoming tournament since my graduation in '80, I can assure everyone that this is going to be an awesome way for us to kick off the 35th Anniversary weekend. It's always a great time, but this year is going to be especially fun with the sheer number of Kappa Sigs of all generations hitting the links.

OK. Now you've talked your fraternity brothers into playing with you and formed your foursome... You're all set and you can coast until November, right? NO!!!

Actually, each golfer must get himself registered in this tournament, and it's not good enough just to show up that day in golf attire and a bag of sticks expecting to play. This year, with so many golfers lining up, Elon Athletics Dept. officials quite understandably will insist on players filing advance registrations. Over the years, we have cultivated some key contacts within the Elon Athletics Department, and they are already well conditioned to grease the skids for Kappa Sigma alumni the day of the event; still, it's the obligation of each man to get himself registered in advance.

Unlike the rest of the institution's Homecoming schedule of events (tickets for which can be ordered online), a golf tournament requirement is that each participant must send a separate mailing of materials via snailmail to Elon Athletics. They need your name, address, a $75 check (which covers greens fee, cart, lunch, awards, a roving beer cart, Elon freebies, and lots of miscellaneous stuff), the name of your playing partners, and your handicap. (The handicap need is because the Elon tournament field is flighted by handicap to enable people to play with who they want. The format of the tournament we Kappa Sigs run concurrently has yet to be set.) While Elon Athletics has set a registration deadline of Monday, November 3, due to the expected large turnout of Elon alumni besides Kappa Sigs, please do NOT cut it that close. I strongly recommend that you get your information in the mail well in advance so that your spot in the shotgun start is assured.

Gus Payne #65 is our tournament chairman. He's already working closely with Elon officials to accommodate our crowd, and he's now working on details about the tournament format for the Kappa Sigs who play. It is my understanding that Gus will send out one or more informational e-blasts to the golfers we assume are planning to play in the coming weeks. As the details become known, I'll add them to our website.

In the meantime, the best thing you can do before too much more time slips by is get your registration mailed in to Elon. All of this information, including the exact mailing address, is contained on our website. Follow this link for what's known to date about our Kappa Sigma Homecoming Golf Tournament.

5th Anniversary Neese House Spring Banquet Glasses

During the NHG Gang party on Friday night of Homecoming, Jack Locicero will raffle about a dozen Spring Banquet glasses which somehow survived the years since our Banquet held at Hilton Head Island in the spring of 1979. Each glass is a valuable keepsake -- this edition was the last one to include the Neese House image. All proceeds of the raffle will be convey to the Lambda-Lambda Alumni Association treasury. Golf Tournament Update

Even though the tournament is still three months away, Elon University has released the registration information for the event. Click here for the details.

Kappa Sigma has a long history of fielding a large number of alumni participants in the university's annual event. For 2008, the turnout will exceed the participation level by a considerable margin. As of this date, nearly eleven full foursomes are ready to play. Many of these men hail from the Neese House Era of our fraternity's history. As the date draws closer, alumni names from the Practice House and subsequent eras will join this listing. Based on the high attendance level so far, when the shotgun sounds on Friday, November 7, there will be a Kappa Sigma foursome starting on every single tee!

Excitement for this event has been building for months, and Lambda-Lambda Alumni Association wants to make it easy for every brother who wants to play to be involved. If you want to play and are interested in finding a foursome, post your message on our Homecoming 2008 Bulletin Board. If you've already paired up, let us know so we can add your names to our golf tournament web page. To add your names, click the link at the bottom of this page.
