Chapter Highlights, 2007-08

Lambda-Lambda Chapter donated many man-hours to support various worthy causes and charitable initiatives during the 2007-08 academic year. The following represents a partial listing of the chapter’s philanthropic activities to date:

Service Project Participation

Safe Rides Program (a program that provides Elon students with responsible drivers as a way to discourage drinking & driving) -- 137 hours [30 brothers served 5 nights during September]

Chapel Hill Street Clean Up (an anti-litter campaign) [a collective 30 hours of service]

ZTA’s ‘Think Pink! Social’ (attendance at the sorority’s dinner/speaker event in support of breast cancer education and awareness) -- 20 hours [10 brothers each participated for 2 hours on October 3)

Phi Mu Cookout (a dinner event in support of Phi Mu sorority’s philanthropy fund; $225 was raised) [a collective 100 hours on October 6]

Thrift Store volunteerism (provided assistance organizing products at a local thrift store) [a collective 13 hours of support]

Juvenile Diabetes Walk (provided logistics support for the event) [75 hours served by 45 members and 5 new members on October 20).

School Supplies for Kids (supported underprivileged children through the donation of school supplies; $80 was raised) [2 hours of service by two members on September 26)

Boys and Girls Club of Burlington After School Program (assisted children with homework and other after-school activities) [a collective 84 hours]

Besides these philanthropic efforts, the chapter has forged ahead with a number of important operational objectives. They include the following initiatives by the chapter:

  • It met its recruitment goal for the 2007-2008 school year
  • Its GPA has risen to a 3.09 which is above the all mens' GPA
  • It established a new chapter initiative with goal to approach 100% total membership ritual proficiency within one year
  • It established a fundraising campaign with goal of raising $ 2,000 for the Fisher House Foundation
  • It strives to establish a self-funded scholarship further increase its GPA performance
  • In process is a plan to get 100% of the chapter members registered to vote
  • The chapter hosted Kappa Sigma's North Carolina State Conclave in April 2007
  • In May 2008, the chapter received 'Action Chapter' certification by Kappa Sigma International Memorial Headquarters
